The National Basketball Association (NBA) locked out its players Thursday after talks over a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) ended in stalemate… the old CBA calls for 57% of basketball-related income to be distributed to the players w/ a team cap of $58 million. the owners are asking for a 50-50 revenue split say sources.

The union countered w/ 54.3%, the equivalent of $100 million per year. H/r, NBA commish David Stern warned that the league will suffer a $300 million loss in the 2010-11 season and needs to create a sustainable business model that allows all 30 teams to be competitive.

The lockout is the NBA’s first work stoppage since the 1998-99 season. The NFL has also been locked-out since March. $$hungry ballers!
