Here are some of the ’Best of the Best’ from the 2010-11 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators/ NACMA Awards handed out in Orlando, Florida this June.

New Revenue-Generating Idea

Gold I – ‘The Porch’ outfield seating / picnic space in left field featured 15 tickets, three parking passes, a picnic table and BBQ grill. created by the University of Tennessee, @Vol_Sports … Tennessee also won silver for Video Board Segment and Bronze for their Newspaper Display Ad that stresses the impact fans have at women’s basketball games.  

“when the coach asks you to do something, it’s polite to oblige… she would like you to step inside and ogle at the eight NCAA Championship banners. She would like you to cheer, yell, have a good time. Chances are, she’ll reward you with victory number 1000-something… Around here, it’s part of our life. And Life is Orange and White.”

Silver I – “K-State Athletic Business Partners” made the process easier for companies to order ticket packages, plus businesses that joined the program were rewarded with gifts that included K-State display flags, window decals and autographed memorabilia. @kstatesports

Kansas State University also won Gold for their ST sales campaign, an integrated approach that included large format postcards mailed to all 2009-10 men’s basketball season ticket holders.

Bronze I – U of Cal Berkeley

Gold II – ‘Reserved First Tennessee Pavilion Tailgating spaces’ allowed tailgaters to reserve a space that included power and cable TV under the cover of their featured Pavilion. UTC, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga @GoMocs led all of the schools in Group II (mainly DI schools that do not compete in the Football Bowl subdivision).
 

Single-Day Attendance Promotion

Gold I – University of Michigan for ‘The BIG Chill’ – Michigan vs Michigan State. 110K in attendance at the outdoor hockey game.


Silver I – Florida State University – their 2009-10 project above, Operation SellOut Women’s Bball. “Be part of history!” 
 

Bronze II – Whiteout for the football home opener – UTC 

Video Promotion

 Gold III – Viral marketing campaign featuring UMass Lowell’s mascot, Rowdy the River Hawk. In the vids, Rowdy is fired for poor sales, but is promised his job back if he can sell at least 2K tickets to a specific game date. 5,753 tix sold that night. @RiverHawkNation

Electronic Promo 

Gold II – The ‘Biggest Little Fan’ contest saw fans submit photos of youngsters supporting Butler, with a ‘Like to win’ Facebook component @HinktheBUDog. Drew reportedly watched his first Butler game on TV from the hospital room when he was just 2 days old.

Silver II – ‘Memorial Blue & Gold Tipoff Game’ took place in unique setting for basketball and garnered two title sponsors for its 2010 edition. UTC
 

Student Promotion

Gold I -“Perfect Attendance.” For the 2010-11 season, Seton Hall students could earn a full refund on their season ticket price of $75 by attending all 15 men’s basketball home games played at the Prudential Center. For the first time in five years the student section was completely sold out on a season ticket basis and seating was expanded to accommodate single game ticket purchasers. @shuathletics

Display Ad

Gold II – promoted Musketeer Madness, the annual tip-off event for Xavier basketball, and ticket sales for the 2010-11 season with a wrap on both sides f/ the Men + Women @xuathletics “Be the X factor.”
